Babysitting [Feb. 2nd, 2008|03:50 am]
It is 3:47 in the am. I've been up for almost 24 hours after getting 3 hours of sleep last night. I just finished my babysitting gig which went really well. I definitely enjoyed myself.

quote of the evening:
"so, what do you study over at Tulane?"
"English and Philosophy"
"Does that combination get you laid at all?"

Fucking Awesome [Feb. 1st, 2008|12:19 pm]
Last night I went out with my roommate and together we had an awkward, drunk run in with his ex-girlfriend. That was fun. I went to bed at about 2:30 after hanging out and drinking for a while, despite the fact that I was supposed to wake up fucking early this morning. So I woke up at 5:30 after 4 alarms and a phone call. Then I went to the glass studio and worked with molten glass for 5 hours. It was awesome. I actually got a lot of shit done today and I'm really happy with the way it all turned out. Plus I got to try blowing for the first time. Which is fucking hard, seriously. But now I'm sitting in my room waiting for free lunch at newcomb...

Lonely planet guide [Jan. 25th, 2008|01:21 am]
Being back at Tulane/in New Orleans is really bizarre. At first I thought it was great to be back. I went out with friends and saw a bunch of good shows all in the first week back. But now culture shock is starting to take hold once again. I thought I had dealt with it pretty well being home, but now that I'm starting to "settle in" here I've noticed a lot of things that are different and difficult to deal with. I have a lot of great friends here, but the way they live and the way I live are completely different. Of course I enjoy going out and having a few drinks, but I still take my studies seriously and beginning a night out at 12am isn't exactly my idea of a good time. Plus I'm still not 21 which makes going out with most of the folks on my level a pain in the ass. I really feel like I'm sitting at the kids table for thanksgiving dinner. So yeah, that's annoying.

Then there's all the stuff with Shannon. She and I aren't together anymore and have maintained a fairly constant distance for the last week or so. She was such a big part of my time here at Tulane which makes being back and being without her a real challenge. I think it could lead to some really great things concerning self discovery, branching out, and meeting new people; but couple that with everything discussed above and I'm really feeling pretty bummed out, despite how well school itself is going.

My classes are awesome so far. I know I'm going to have to put in a lot of work over the course of the semester, but I'm actually pumped about the things I'm learning. For the first time in a long time (possibly forever) I've been able to sit through entire 2.5 hour lectures and not play games on my phone or skip out into the hallway for an extended bathroom break. I can really feel the material pulling me in and coming together to form a common theme. Really there are three different themes (literature, philosophy of action, and art) but all three are really important to me right now. I feel the need to explore each one as deeply as I can (without exhausting myself/wearing myself out on the subjects) in order to explore myself. But yeah, the actual classes are as follows: glass blowing, history of ethics, philosophy of action, jewish american literature, and salman rushdie. I don't have a favorite yet, but the rushdie class is mighty interesting.

Anyways, that's about all for now. Drop me a line sometime. It gets pretty lonely here sometimes.
